7/12/11 News:  ALL GAMES HAVE BEEN CANCELED TODAY, Tuesday, due to extreme and unsafe heat. Everything is on as normal for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 13th.
NOTE: We have decided to change the plan for the final day, Thursday. On July 14th we want every player from all four teams to show up and play ONLY at George Mason HS Turf Field for the Championship Game.

MELL 2011 standings are below. Arrive at least 20 minutes before your first game to check-in and receive a game jersey.  Ages have been expanded to 25 for the MELL 2011 to increase level of play but all college grads must have played on a college team or MCLA club as always. Teams and schdule are posted below. If you must switch teams a program director must approve team switches at the field the first week.

Who: The MELL is only for top varsity high school, graduating high school, current or graduated college players in the DC/VA/MD/Balt region ages 16-25. You must be on a collegiate roster (NCAA or MCLA) or a high school varsity level starter/standout in 2011 to compete in the MELL.

Rules: Full NCAA Rules.  30-35 minute running time halves (depending on attendance).  1 time-out per half.  Stop clock in final 2 minutes of 2nd half only if game is within 3 goals.

When: Between June 28 and July 14 anytime from 5-8pm in the evenings only Monday through Thursdays. Expect 2-3 games weekly. See schedule above.

Where: We expect to be on the field turf at both Old Redskins Park and George Mason HS Field Turf Stadium. Easy to get to from MD, DC and VA.

Cost: Only $180. Up to 10 games for each player!  Only $18/game...a great value.

2011 Schedule: (we will post here right before start of league)
You play up to 10 games which includes regular season, Semi-Finals, Championship Game and an All-Star Game!  ALL games are ALWAYS at 5:30pm or later during the week.

2011 Rosters: (we will post here right before start of league)
Since all teams play at the same field every night it is easy for carpool. If you want to switch rosters it is NOT guaranteed as we really want to keep teams even and games close. A MELL commissioner has to approve all trades or roster moves at the field.

Teams are drafted by the league directors right before the first games in late June. Once the league is full we select these rosters and will post here the week prior to the first game. We try to balance the talented teams with a fair draft.  EVERY registered player is in the league unless you are notified. Again, final rosters will be linked here when picked. Only 20-24 or so players per team to ensure more playing time.

League Format and Philosophy:
In its 12th summer in 2011, the MELL, is established as the ultimate summer league for the top high school, graduating high school, and current college players in the DC / Baltimore region.  You must be on a collegiate roster (NCAA or MCLA) or a high school varsity level standout to compete in the MELL.  All games are extremely fast, fun, and competitive because we attract only high level players. There are NO tryouts for this league for boys ages 16-25. However, enrollment is limited to only 200 players, 25 per team max.  8 teams are drafted just before the season and we may have to close the league or not take certain players depending on positions that fill up.

The MELL consistently attracts the DC metropolitan area's best to play against each other in an intense environment where exposure to faster college play and improvement will be emphasized. There will be only 25 players on 8 teams, 10 games per team which includes playoffs and an All-Star game (Top 40), and an Elite Team (Top 10).  Each team will have qualified coach(s) to ensure equal playing time. The league will use certified NCAA officials. For those outstanding HS players colleges will be sent the league schedule, All-Star and Elite Team lists, and have been on hand evaluating players in the past.  You will enjoy it; just ask anyone who has competed in the MELL in the past!

Play With Passion - Coach Maddux and the Madlax Staff

The MELL ELITE Team is the 10 best players in the league. You will find some college all-americans in this list. In 2008 we started to allow current or rising college players to make the elite team. Before that it was just current HS players who were eligible.

Will you be on the ELITE TEAM in 2011?
